Holly Hat Racking: A Hands-on Workshop

Join Grounds Manager/ Arborist Ian Jochems for Holly Hat Racking. This class will provide a hands-on demonstration on how to tame overgrown or misshapen American Hollies (Ilex opaca). Participants will learn general pruning techniques as well as how to “hat-rack” a Holly. Following the demonstrations, we will walk around to examine examples of Hollies that have been pruned in the past and observe how they have changed. All necessary tools will be provided, and participants will have the opportunity to try out different pruning tools. Meet at the Visitor Center.
Please bring work gloves, safety glasses and dress appropriately for outdoor work.
